Automatic transmissions are relatively new here, Elogs only became mandatory in 2018, hydraulic or electric retarders are completely unknown here - they still rely on engine brakes. Everything is roughly 20 years behind the European market. The North American trucking industry is extremely conservative. There’s so much more about American trucks that boggle the European mind. Those things are so loud inside, they’d most likely be illegal in Europe for exceeding permissible noise levels in the work place. If you sit in an old school long nose Peterbilt or Kenworth then all bets are off. I’m guessing they are using cheaper and/or less sound insulation. Even the Volvos over here are much louder than the ‘original’ Volvos in Europe. ![]() You do need noise cancelling if you want to be understood.
